ST Engineering raised nearly $440,000 for the President’s Challenge in a series of fundraising activities this year. Since the company launched its annual fundraising activities in 2000, it has raised more than S$1.5million. On Monday (December 5), Vincent Chong, President and CEO of ST Engineering, handed over a check worth $438,000 to Guest of Honour President Halimah. The donation will be used to fund beneficiary groups under the President’s Challenge.

In conjunction with International Volunteers Day, the event “A MOVEment of Hearts” was held at Xin Yuan Community Care Center, led by volunteer ST Engineering employee volunteers.

President Halimah was invited to participate, and interacted with the seniors who were exercising. Senior Minister of State of the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Finance Mr Chee Hong Tat said in his speech: “In my capacity as Grassroots Adviser to Bishan Toa Payoh GRC … making out town an elderly-friendly place has been one of my key priorities.”

For the safety of the elderly with limited mobility to get around, a covered walkway connecting the first and second Toa Payoh North districts has just been built. He encouraged the elderly to go out more and get to know their neighbours. Mr Chee also said that he hopes to see more support for charities such as Xin Yuan Community Care, so that such charities will have sufficient resources to better serve the community.

ST Engineering also presented a SGD$22,000 cheque to Xin Yuan Community Care to support their daily operations. ST Engineering also prepared

goodie bags with a variety of groceries and daily necessities for over 100 seniors present. The seniors participated in origami folding and singing

performances conducted by the ST Engineering volunteers.

ST Engineering’s Ms Ling, 40, stated: “Today’s event is very meaningful to me as my own grandmother was bedridden for ten years – the elderly truly need our care and companionship.”

Mr Tan, retiree, 83, said during the interview: “Xin Yuan Community Care has given the elderly a place to socialise and do activities, provided us with exercise equipment, and even taught us about healthcare.
